OIL, GAS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY

Field of study: INTERDISCIPLINARY IN ENGINEERING/TECHNOLOGY/MANAGEMENT
Description: In the context of hydrocarbon exploration, Brazil has seen its reserves grow significantly with prospecting in deep and ultra-deep waters. More recently, a new frontier has emerged: the pre-salt layer, which has placed Brazil among the countries with the largest hydrocarbon reserves. However, the challenges inherent in the exploration of these reserves are many.

In this sense, this line of research seeks to aggregate knowledge with the development of the following groups:

- Geoengineering of oil and gas reservoirs, which, in addition to involving geosciences, includes studies on modeling complex flows in porous media with the aim of improving hydrocarbon recovery techniques.

- Production and processing of oil and gas, combining efforts in the characterization of oil and emulsions, drilling and completion operations, lifting and flow, primary processing, and refining.

- Development and application of computer systems and electronic prototypes to support the exploration and/or production of oil, gas, and renewable energy.

While the importance of the oil and gas sector is recognized, this line of research also seeks to generate the basis for the scientific development of future energy sources that are committed to economic viability and have lower environmental impacts, thus ensuring sustainability and contributing to long-term growth.

Among the work to be developed, the following stand out:

- Management of energy exploration and production systems.

- Exploration, production and processing of renewable energy.
